Northampton marks Apprenticeship Week
Northampton College recently marked the National Apprenticeship Week by visiting local schools in the area to raise awareness of the benefit of apprenticeships and to demonstrate the skills that can be learned.
A team from the college offered school pupils advice, information and guidance on apprenticeships. The children were also encouraged to take part in practical demonstrations to help show case the range of courses on offer. Demonstrations included a resuscitation doll, cake decorating, lemon powered clocks and hairdressing.
Apprenticeship Week also saw the announcement of an additional £140 million investment into apprenticeship by the Government in order to increase participation. It is hoped that these new skills learnt during apprenticeships will help the country recover from the recent global economic crisis.
Normally to qualify for an apprenticeship employment is already need, however at Northampton College a number of vacancies have been arranged with local employers in a number of fields including hairdressing, hospitality and catering.
